Affogato at G&D's in Oxford

On my way to the Oxford Girl Geek Dinners last week I planned to find a good cup of coffee on Cowley Road, but due to the lack of time I landed at G&D's - Oxford's best ice-cream place. You can find them in few rather central locations open pretty late at night - which is great for those of us who travel further out too - I need to take my bus from a small stop just opposite G&D's so if I am stuck in town around 10PM I can have a hot drink or cold dessert;))

Last week I decided to check the menu - I am reading those really carefully since I started investigating coffee. Affogato was the drink I have found which got me excited about the idea of testing it in public before making one at home. I know from iPhone coffee apps and web sources (link is inactive today due to SOPA protest, but you will be able to use it later on) how to make it, but it is always better to try one make by professionals. I have to say the the G&D's version of affogato differs from the one I have come across elsewhere - it contains coffee and ice-cream but no cakes (usually you would mix it with remaining bits and pieces from various cakes too). So really what I had was just another version of typical for this Oxford venue "Mad Cow" - a drink made of coffee and ice-cream only that in case of affogato you receive a large portion of ice-cream.

I still like the idea of being able to choose the taste of ice-cream and on occasions like that evening last week I really appreciated a good energy kick. It was a bit of a challenge to take a nice shot of the dessert, but considering I munched it up pretty quickly I guess it's not a bit deal;)

If you are in Oxford, do try out drinks and desserts at G&D's - it's one of the goodies of this city.
